Hello and welcome to my blog!
For the friends and family interested in keeping up with my gap year in Brazil, you’ve come to the right place. For curious newcomers, thanks for stopping by. I hope you decide to stay, though I suppose a little introduction first might do me well.
My name is Elise. I am 18 years old and a recent high school graduate. My hobbies and interest include playing and listening to jazz, watching movies, saving the environment, and meditating on the complications of existence. Rather than continue to college right away, I have decided to take a gap year with Global Citizen Year. From September 2017 to April 2018, I will be living in Brazil with a host family. Much of this blog will be devoted to my experiences abroad.
My hope is that my gap year will open me to new experiences and opportunities to learn with and about people of much different backgrounds. Even though I am still very young and have much to learn about the world, recently I have seen more people actively ostracize others for their different beliefs, upbringings, and ways of life than keep their minds and hearts open to their fellow humans. While I cannot say I am completely without prejudice, I believe that realizing your own bias is the first step to overcoming it, and that’s where I’m starting.
I don’t mean to be preachy. My goal is not to be inspiring. I just want to make my corner of the world a little bigger and a little brighter.
Love and Peace,
